4 Healthy and Simple Morning Habits – Greendiary.com

Whether you’re a night owl or an early riser, there are always more healthy habits you can incorporate into your morning routine. Perhaps you start your day with a nutritious Lean Kitchen breakfast, grab your coffee, and start the commute to work.

While this routine isn’t inherently bad, there are some habits you can include to create a healthier lifestyle! It starts as soon as you open your eyes. Here are 4 healthy and simple morning habits.

1.  Less Screen Time

It’s all too easy to grab our phone as soon as we wake up. We’ve all been there, lying in bed after the alarm goes off, scrolling social media. However, this is not the best habit to continue if you want to be the healthiest version of yourself. Most often, we spend a great majority of our days engaged in some screen time.

Starting your morning without your phone helps you to spend more time focused on you and less time distracting yourself with social media and the lives of others. You also want to refrain from checking email, work can always wait. If it can’t, consider getting up a little bit earlier to allow yourself some “me time” before kick starting your day.

2.  Water Before Coffee

Coffee was made for the mornings. We often don’t even realize we’re making it, but we certainly know if we don’t have it. However, we often wake up dehydrated, and coffee has the potential to dehydrate us even more. (Don’t shoot the messenger!) If you can, try and drink a tall glass of water before your first cup of Joe.

It will be a bit challenging at first, but it is well worth it in the long run. By drinking a glass of water before coffee, you’re also giving yourself a good motivator to get in some adequate H2O, which is paramount for a healthy lifestyle!

3.  Move a Little

Running six miles as soon as you get up may sound daunting, and who has the time for that? You don’t need to run or hit the gym first thing in the morning, but you should try and incorporate some physical activity.

This could be simply stretching, going for a short walk, or practicing yoga or Pilates. Even just 10 minutes of light exercise can get you ahead of the game for your new day. Exercise releases endorphins which are the body’s “feel good” hormones. Who doesn’t want to start their day with happy hormones rushing through their bodies?

4.  Engage Your Brain

What you ingest first thing sets the tone for where your focus will be the rest of the day. (This is another reason you want to limit social media use in the AM.) If you incorporate some reading, writing, or a combination of both – you’re training your brain to reflect and absorb new information.

You don’t need to read an entire novel or write pages in your journal. Instead, opt for a realistic goal like reading 10 pages of a nonfiction book or writing out 10 things you are grateful for. Whatever you decide on, make sure that it’s something you can easily continue each day.
