"Do you still know, back in paris. The poldi fell into the water", willy kastner told us, and he also had the matching old photo with him. Laughing at the peers. And many an anecdote was told at the reunion of the former members of the boys’ band in the kommunbrau: of youths who had been booed, of beer drinking and of many a prank.
Appearances in lederhosen
"I have not been in kulmbach for almost 50 years, i live in nagold in baden-wurttemberg. But when I found out that the former members of the boys’ band were meeting, I was happy to come", helmut steeger (74) said.
"We had a red vest, a blue jacket and a tricorn hat", reiner hofmann. The kulmbach city archivist had a passion for collecting even back then. He has come to the meeting of the "old" boy brought his own uniform. "Oh, I just did not give them back then." At the revival he is a hero with his remembrance piece. "I have grown out of it", said hofmann.
"I joined the boys’ band when I was nine years old. I used to play tenor horn, now I play baritone with the burghaig music society", says hofmann. At the same time – from 1957 to 1963 – didi arlt (72) was also there. "The boys’ orchestra was already something back then. We’ve been around the world. I remember trips to paris, to the kieler woche and to the gaubodenfest", he paid arlt.
Many former students have brought photos of their memories with them. Adam fleischer (67) contributed some very different old photographs to the success of the evening. He still owns a tape recorder from the sixties, fully functional. "I remember when we visited franz josef straub, the defense minister at the time, in bonn, how we went to karl heinrich lubke’s villa hammerschmidt", swarmed butcher.
Siegfried kufner (64) also has very special memories: "the best thing for us was when we put on our uniforms and felt like little kings, kufner said. He was not alone in the boys’ band, his brothers helmut, ferdinand and dieter were also there.
Songs in honor of poldi schott
At the meeting in the kommunbrau, the former members of the boys’ band celebrated "their poldi". Schott would have turned one hundred in may 2017. City band conductor thomas besand wanted to play a commemorative piece at the new year’s concert 2018. "I have a special relationship with poldi schott. Because he was my first horn teacher and a fatherly friend. I have inherited many notes from him, also some waldhorns."
Then again resounding laughter at the neighboring table. "Do you still know, back in paris. We played a fubball game", some laughed. Erich wochele (65), alfred thurn (67) and heinz schaller (71) also put their heads together and were amused by the pictures. "But we’ve been good boys", schaller summed up what everyone was thinking.
